Put Your *Dressed* Foot Forward

Are you ready for this? I'm about to share something with you that is LIFE CHANGING. Seriously.
I was watching Danielle from Girly Gazette on her web TV show and she was encouraging women to take a little time for themselves every day to do their hair and makeup. Someone in the chat room said that she didn't want to go through the trouble if she wasn't going out and Danielle reminded everyone that we're worth the time to make ourselves feel good.

It hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a wake up call; an "Ah-ha" moment, if you will. Since having my baby girl 4 months ago, I had really let myself get into the habit of putting my children before me. Now, I'm not saying that I should come first every single minute of the day. What I'm saying is that I matter enough to take the 10-15 minutes in the morning to put on a cute outfit and spend time fixing my hair and doing my makeup.

I don't have a fabulous wardrobe. I don't have designer goodies just waiting for me to put them on. But I do have better than lounge clothes and I have decided to set the following guidelines for myself.

  • Pajama days can only be special and fun if they don't happen on a regular basis. No "regular" pajama days are allowed.
  • Lounge clothes are for sick days. When I wear lounge clothes, it makes me lazy and lazy = not feeling good about myself.
  • I WILL find something to do with my hair other than put it in a ponytail. Ponytails can be cute if done right but that loses its cute factor after 3 days in a row.
  • While I don't have to be glam-ed up every single day, I will take the time to put on at least a light application of makeup and put together an actual outfit. It makes me look like I'm ready for the day which in turn makes me feel like I'm ready for the day. My self-confidence loves this.
You would not believe the change in my days since I've begun following those guidelines for myself. I get things done and I feel awesome. I'm still changing diapers, wearing a burp rag on my shoulder, and chasing around a toddler but I feel better about me.

Let us never forget our value while we go through our daily routine. Let us remember that as women, we are automatically beautiful in every way and it's OK to take time to make ourselves feel that way too.

Can you feel the positivity? The happy vibe coming through? I've remembered that I matter and my life will never be the same. Thank you, Girly Gazette!

since the new year my rule has been no comfy pants! I must button and zip pants everyday!!! It helps me not only get dressed everyday, but also in the weight loss dept.! LOVE this post! You know your husband will appreciate the extra effort too!

Great tips! I think I need to do the same thing. Sometimes it is so hard for me to get the motivation to take care of myself let alone put on a nice outfit, fix my hair and put on a little make up. Chasing around little kids all day is tiring and we need to make sure we take time out for ourselves.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    So true!

Even though our almost 6 month old baby is STILL sleeping not at all (we are talking not even four hours at a time) and our 4 year old is always up early -- I usually feel slightly better if I at least have on mascara!

Also -- it helps keep friends from seeing me and saying, "are you sick?" ;)
