Day Out With Thomas at The Henry Ford
A little over a week ago, my little family was invited to the Day Out With Thomas as hosted by The Henry Ford in their Greenfield Village.
Let me begin by saying how much I enjoyed taking my family to Greenfield Village. When you step into the park, you step back in time. There are all sorts of buildings/homes/modes of transportation that are taken right out of history books and put all in one place. The old buildings are kept up so well and you learn something from every building you enter. There are people who stroll around the park in period costumes, constables directing traffic, and horse drawn carriages.
Here's a bit of what I mean.
It's beautiful and you could spend an entire day going from one history story to another.
On to the Day Out With Thomas. Alex was VERY excited to see Thomas and go for a train ride. I was excited too and then we saw all that was available for our little guy to do. It was even more fun than I had imagined. There were tents set up in one area of the park. There was a gift shop, sweet shop, magic show, Thomas tattoos, coloring pages, train tables to play with, a giant Thomas made from Legos, a photo opportunity with Sir Topham Hatt himself, a small area with pedal cars for the little ones to drive, and more.
We took Alex around to see what he was interested in doing.
He was excited to get a Thomas tattoo. He kept looking at it all day to see if it was still there. :)
Alex colored a picture of Thomas, James, and Percy.
He didn't want to get on the Lego train for a picture but he loved seeing Thomas up close.
Alex could have stayed at the train tables all day. There were 3 set up and a lot of little ones to play with.
Outside, he loved the bean bag game. He threw the bean bags through the hole in the coal car over and over.
Of course, who can forget the train ride? Alex was so intrigued the whole time. He kept leaning to the side so he could catch glimpses of Thomas pulling the train whenever he turned. While we were on the train, we heard all of the familiar songs we know from Thomas and Friends.
We had a very memorable time and Alex is still talking about it. I'm looking forward to more family events at The Henry Ford to share with you. If you live near Dearborn, MI, or plan on taking a trip there, be sure to add a visit to The Henry Ford to your agenda. There are a lot of things to see and do and there's something for everyone in your family.

What a wonderful day out with Thomas and your family. We took our son to see Thomas a while back at the Spencer Train Depot in NC. We didn't get to experience the Lego Thomas, that would have been fun. My son's obsession with Thomas started at Christmas '05 with his first oval train set and Thomas train. Thomas & Friends have taken over our home. It is a very expensive hobby. Thanks for sharing and take care.

What an incredible day you guys had! My son was a HUGE Thomas fan in the early 90's...we have all of the die cast trains stored away.
I wish we could have done something like this when he was little. It sounds like an amazing place for kids and adults too!

there is one coming close here RIGHT after the baby is born..so we wont be going this year......but maybe next year! Evan LOVES Thomas!

I can't wait to take my grandson to see Thomas. He's only 19 months now, so I thought I'd wait until next year.

I've been to the Henry Ford Museum which was cool but the village wasn't open (in February). WIsh I could have gone it looks really neat. Maybe one day....although my sister doesn't live there anymore so realistically I probably won't.
